One of Monikas' friends at work gave her a tin of cookies for Christmas and Bob got a good laugh from the picture. The tag on the box the kittens are putting the puppy into says; "Return to Santa."

Rant Time

I had to have a long talk with Bob yesterday. For a while now all he has been posting is reviews of stuff that Chewy sends us to try out and those are dictated by Munchkin. This is supposed to be my blog and we have had a few fosters here and I never even got to talk about them let alone anything else. Our current pair of kittens we just got on Tuesday and they are already leaving for a forever home today.  The pair before them we only had for a little over a week.

Also The Way Home has decided they are going to start TnRing also, so after the new year Bob and Monika are going to start catching our local strays that they feed and getting them fixed so there are no more stray kittens.

New Food

Munchkin here,

Chewy sent us a new food to try.  It's from Stella and Chewy's and it is dehydrated food.  It comes as very dry pellets and Bob has to mix them with warm water to rehydrate them and then crush them up for us.  Obsidian and I both love it, so it gets a big 8 out of 8 paws up.

Having Fun With Monika's Stuff

Monika likes to crochet while she is watching TV and I like to get on her lap to make it hard for her. A couple of days ago she started doing her crochet at the computer and at first I didn't catch on, so she got some stuff done. Then yesterday while she and Bob were at work I found her crochet hook and a couple of the little wooden hoops she is using for the reefs, snow flakes and stars she is making, so I took them all and had some fun. When Bob came home he found her crochet hook on his computer chair, one of the rings on the floor next to the litter box and the other ring in the top part of the cat tree.

New Food 2c

This time we had the Science Diet Turkey & Liver Entrée.  The first time Bob gave it to us, none of us liked it, so he tried it two more times to be sure, but we still mostly ignored it.  I'll give it 1 paw up just to be nice.

The second flavor we tried was Science Diet's Savory Chicken Entrée.  Neither Obsidian or I cared much for this one.  I ate about half of my bowl and I didn't even touch his even though both bowls were left out over night. I'll give this 2 paws up.

Chewy also sent us 3 flavors of Science Diet to review.  The first one we tried is their Savory Turkey Entree.  Both Obsidian and I thought it was pretty good, but neither of us wolfed it down, so I think that gives it about 6 paws up.

This month Chewy sent us two different foods to try.  The first one we tried is Instinct's minced rabbit recipe.  They package it raw and in gravy.  At first when I walked up to it I wasn't sure what to think, but as soon as I tasted it, I decided I liked it.  Obsidian on the other hand took a few bites out of his bowl and decided it wasn't for him.

That gives it 4 paws up and leaves more for me.

Feliway Diffuser

This month Chewy offered the Feliway diffuser  available for their samples and as we foster cats and kittens in our home, Monika and I decided to try it out.  We just got a new foster kitten named Tinkerbell and we plugged it in in the master bathroom. The first couple of days she was hissy with our cats when she saw them, but by about the 5th day she was fine with them as long as Obsidian didn't play too rough.

New Food Part 6

Last night Bob let us try the final flavor of Tiki Cat after Dark that Chewy sent us to sample for free. It was Chicken and Lamb and Obsidian and I both liked it, but Jaime snuck in and ate some of both of ours, so that gives it 12 of 12 paws up.

Today Bob gave us the Chicken and Liver flavor.  Obsidian and I both only ate about half of ours, but then the foster kitten Jaime came up to mine and started chowing down. I usually chase the fosters away when they try to steal my food, but in this case I just let him have it and when he finished mine he went straight to Obsidian's and ate it too.

I guess that give it a 8 out of 12 paws rating.

New Food Part 4

Last night Bob gave us the Chicken and Quail Egg to try and it actually had a half hard boiled quail egg white in it. At first I didn't know what to make of the egg white, so I ate around it. But then I decided to try it and I found out that I liked it too. Once again Obsidian only ate about half of his, but I was happy to finish it for him.  That gives it 6 out of 8 paws up.

A Book For The Humans

Last month among the things we could choose to review was a book of cat stories called; I Can't Believe My Cat Did That. Monika and I both being an avid readers, I had to order it. I just finished reading it and I loved just about every story.

I don't have paws to raise, so I will humanize the rating and give it 5 stars.

New Food Part 3

Last night Bob let us try the chicken and duck flavor. I ate all of mine over 2 eating sessions and Obsidian ate about half of his, so this one gets 6 out of 8 paws up.

Last night Bob let Obsidian and me try the chicken and beef flavor.  I liked this on better and ate most of it in one setting and Obsidian liked it more also, though he only ate about 1/4 of his.

That gives it 5 out of 8 paws up.

Chewy sent us a free sample case of Tiki Cat after Dark to try. Today we had the Chicken and Pork flavor. Obsidian ignored his, but I drank the juice out of mine and then ate some of the meat. I guess that only gives it a 2 out of 8 paws rating.

Bob wrote this too early. I went back when I was more awake and finished my bowl and half of Obsidian's.  Make that 4 out of 8 paws.

Nap Like a Pirate Cat

It's Talk Like a Pirate Day, but we all think that Millie has the right idea, so we are all going to nap like a pirate kitty instead.

Nurse Cosette

I really love it when there are kitties here for me to take care of, but I have discovered that I really like being Nurse Maid to Munchkin too.  I give her baths and we cuddle together alot to share our purrs.  I also play Nurse Maid for Ashlyn occasionally, but she is usually to bust hiding where Obsidian can't get her.

After Irma

Irma dropped a lot of branches every where, but there was no major damage in our neighborhood. Our power went out at about 2:15 am Monday and came back on at about 2:30 pm. Obsidian was a little scared because he never experienced a bad hurricane before, but Pewter seemed mostly oblivious. She was running around the apartment playing and making Bob and Monika laugh.

New Food

Chewy sent us a new food to try. It's called CRAVE and it comes in containers that can be broken down into 2 kitten sized servings.  Bob gave Obsidian and I each a full pack and was getting ready to open a third for Pewter when Sid walked away from his and Pewter walked up and started eating it.

That gives it 8 out of 12 paws up.

Vitamin Treat

Chewy sent us a vitamin treat to try that is supposed to help our immune systems. Obsidian, Ashlyn and I loved it, but Cosette wanted nothing to do with it.  That gives it 12 paw up out of 16.

Adventure Time

After my brother and sister were adopted, Monika and Bob started letting me come to play and explore. This morning I tried jumping onto the tree in the computer room, but I was too close to the wall and I got stuck between the platform I was trying to jump onto and the wall. Luckily Obsidian saw me and he jumped up and helped me get out.

The night before Monika brought me to Vickie's house and yesterday morning Vickie took me to the V-e-t.  I don't know what happened there though.  All I know is I took a nap and when I woke up my butt hurt.  In other news Freckles and I have been adopted and we are leaving for our new forever home Thursday night.

New Food

Chewy sent Bob a new food to try. It is supposed to go over dry food to make it more appetizing, but he just gave Obsidian and I each a pouch to try by itself. I loved it, but Obsidian only ate a little of his. That gives it about 5 paws up, but Bob says he is going to try it with the kittens and see how they score it too.

A New Toy

Bob pulled down this new toy for us to play with.

Smudge and I had fun playing with it, but Pewter was kind of wary of it.

After a short time though, I decided it was mine and started pulling it across the floor.

I ended with pulling it under the bed, but Bob couldn't get a picture because the camera's battery was dead.

When we aren't closed in the bathroom for the night, our favorite place to nap and play is under the bed. Bob took pictures of all three of us for you to see.

Playing With Bob

Hi Everyone,

It's me Freckles. I made up a new game that I enjoy playing with Bob. It's called try to get out of the bedroom. The first time we played it, I tried sitting on his foot to ride out on it, but he just picked me up and gave me cuddles. Second I actually made it out, but I was so shocked that I just sat right outside the door and looked at him like; "Now what am I supposed to do. Those were my attempts for yesterday. Today for my third attempt I just charged toward the door and closed my eyes to concentrate on my speed, but Bob put his foot in front of me and I crashed into his ankle. Later for my fourth attempt I went running past him and beat him to the door, but again he picked me up and gave me cuddles. But Bob and Monika both promised us that we would be able to come out of the bedroom on Saturday, so I guess that isn't too bad.

Kittens at Play

Quality is not the greatest, but I thought you might enjoy the kittens playing with their new stick toy.

New Foster Kittens

Monika and I just took in 3 new foster kittens. They all just got their first shots today, so we will be watching them to make sure there are no ill effects.

This is Smudge, he is already a purrer and last time I went to put him down he grabbed my shirt with his paws and pulled himself back to me.

This is Freckles, she is also a purrer, but she is a bit more wriggly than her brother and wanted back down before I was ready to give her up.

This is Pewter, she is the shy one out of the group and Monika and I have yet to hear her purr.

Monika's Coming Back Home!

Monika has been gone on vacation with her Mom for 2 weeks and I miss her very much, but I just heard Bob say that she is coming home today. I'm so excited. I can't wait to get my cuddles from her.

Liza Has a New Home

I went to my new home yesterday and I slept next to my new Mom with my head on her shoulder last night. Vicky from The Way Home gave me a new tree to and she got Bob to bring it to my new home and put it together for me.

Now I can sit in the top and look out the window which I love to do. Of course though as soon as I saw Bob pull up the camera, I jumped down so he could not get my picture.

Missing Monika

Monika left Saturday morning for a vacation with her Mom and I have been moping around because I miss her. Luckily Bob is still here and he let's me lay in his lap for pets. I think Cosette misses her even more than I do, but she wont go to Bob for attention because she does not like male humans.

New Food Day 3

This time we tried the duck recipe and Liza decided she wanted to try some too. All three of us loved it.  12 paws way up!

This time we tried the salmon flavor. Munchkin really liked it, but I just thought it was OK, so this one gets 6 paws up.

New Food

Chewy sent us some Blue Wilderness cat food to try out. They sent 3 flavors and today we are reviewing the chicken flavor. Munchkin and I both loved this one giving it a big 8 out of 8 paws up.

New Treat

Chewy sent us some new treats to try out. They are from Purina's Pro Plan line and they're made with real chicken, so of course we all loved them. 8 paws way up!

Munchkin was mostly right. I got to keep my top fangs. I'm a little dopey now from the meds I am on, but I am eating well and on the mend.

Liza Has to Lose Her Teeth

Bob had to take Liza to the V-e-t for major surgery yesterday. She has Stomatitis and they have to remove all of her teeth. I feel bad for her, but I am also a little happy because I got to sleep with Bob and Monika last night.

New Food

Chewy sent us another new food to try out and this stuff is so good we have been turning our noses up at the food we usually get. It's called EVO 95, and it is 95% animal protein. We got the chicken and turkey flavor. This gets 12 paws way up, only because we can't figure out how to raise more paws.

Q-Tips Are Fun

I found this great new toy to play with. It's called Q-Tips. Monika forgot to put them away after she used the, and when Bob got; up after his daytime sleep; I had them all over the floor in the computer room.

New Food

Munchkin here,

Chewy sent Bob some new food for us to try. It's from ZiwiPeak and it was lamb flavored. Obsidian, our foster Liza and I all tried it. Obsidian ate about half of his and then left it. Liza ate about 3/4 of hers, and I ate most of mine a little at a time. I'd say that gives it about 9 paws up.

She Captured Me

Monika was getting ready to go to work this morning and I followed her to the door to say goodbye, but all of a sudden she picked me up and gave me cuddled me. I looked at Bob and asked him to save me, but he just smiled and said; "That's what happens when you follow Mommy to the door."

Disgruntled

We have had a new foster here since early April and her name is Liza.  I keep going after her when I see her, because I want to play, but Bob and Monika wont let me because they say I play too rough and she has no front claws to defend herself.  Because of this I am always getting squirted with the water bottle, or else I am closed in the computer room when they let her come out of the bedroom.  Also I am not allowed to come into the bedroom at night to sleep on the bed with bob and Monika,

Another New Treat

Chewy sent us another new treat to try.  This one is from Merrick and it is freeze-dried chicken pieces. I love freeze-dried and I asked Bob if I could have them all for me, but he said I have to share.

Luckily Cosette does not like freeze-dried treats, so that leaves more for me.

That means 12 paws way up!

Chewy sent us some new treats to try. They are Wellness Kittles and we got the Chicken and Cranberries recipe.

Obsidian and I both really liked them, but Ashlyn and Cosette only thought they were OK.

That gives them 12 paws up.

Messing With Bob

Monika left her computer on Sunday night, and I found a new way to drive Bob crazy. I laid down on her keyboard and it made her speakers start making all these weird beeping noises. He spoiled my fun though because he put the keyboard under the shelf so I could not lay on it any more.

New Food

Chewy's sent us some solid gold Purrfect Pairings to try out. We got tuna and goat milk flavored. Munchkin, our foster sister Liza and I are the only ones that eat wet food here, but we all loved it. That gives it a big twelve out of twelve paws up.

New Food

Chewy sent us another new food to try. It was Grain-free Turkey and Chicken recipe from nulo freestyle. Bob read a review on it that gave it 5 out of 5 stars, so he figured that we would all love it. It did not quite work out that way though. We all turned our noses up at it and told him to let the person that reviewed it eat it. Instead he gave a couple of cans of it to our Aunt Joan so our cousin cats could try it. Then Aunt Joan told Bob that our cousin Sophie liked it, so he gave her the rest of the case. So even though we did not care for it, it still gets a big 4 paws up from Sophie.

Frisco Litter Revisited

Bob really liked this litter because he could pour it into the old Tidy Cat bucket and it did not raise a lot of dust. But as we have been using it and he has been cleaning our litters, he has discovered that something happens to it as it is used that makes it get dusty while he is cleaning it. He had planned to switch all of our litters to Frisco as soon as we ran out of the bulk of Tidy Cat 3 in 1 that Monika bought when they were on sale, but now he is staying with the Tidy Cat.

Meet Liza

Hi, I'm Liza.

I have been a foster with Bob and Monika 3 whole weeks now. I like them much better than my original pets who had my front claws removed and then put me out with the strays to fend for myself. Most of the kitties here are nice with the exception of Obsidian. He is always trying to get me and I can't defend myself like most cats would. Luckily Bob and Monika are both experts with the water bottle. Also if Sid gets too persistent they close us in separate rooms, so he cant bother me. Monika found out the hard way that I do not like to be scruffed. I may not have my front claws, but my hind claws work quite nicely. Bob just scoops me up and hold my back feet when he cuddles me. I don't always like it at first, but as soon as he starts petting me I usually calm right down. Also if we are in the bedroom he just picks me up and puts me on the bed, then lays next to me and gives me cuddles, pets and kisses. I really like that.

Oh and about the picture. I'll try to remind Bob to put the flash on next time so it does not come out so blurry.

Bob finally managed to catch me drinking more than one pawful of water. Usually when ever he points the camera at me, I stop drinking and just look at him.

Munchkin's New Med Revisited

I promised that I would update you on the Cosequin so here it is.

I tend to switch and eat from Obidian's bowl also, but I still eat a good amount form my bowl also. While it does alter the taste of my stinky goodness a little, it is not bad enough to where I refuse to eat it. I just finish what Obsidian leaves first because it tastes better and besides if I don't than Jackie might beat me to it.

Before Bob started giving it to me in my food I had a noticeable limp, and I didn't jump up onto things very much. Now the limp is mostly gone and I have started jumping into Bob's lap or onto his desk instead of asking him to pick me up, so that is a real good thing.

6 Reasons not to punish your cat

It can be very frustrating for a pet parent when
their cat behaves badly. Instinctively, you move
to punish them, but there are very good rea-
sons why this is neither the most efficient nor
the most effective way of fixing the problem.

Cats, unlike humans, don't learn easily from their mistakes,
which is why punishing them can lead to other behavioural
difficulties.

Here are six reasons for why you should reward your cat
for their good behaviour rather than punish them for their
bad moments.

#1 Cats aren't actually mean

Although your cat can seem to be spiteful when they pee on
your bed or scratch the new sofa, they aren't actually thinking
about their actions in that way at all. In reality, your cat
is just trying to communicate and tell you that something in
the environment is not right for them.

Is their litter clean? Has something changed in your home?
Have you welcomed a new pet? 

Learn to understand your cat - they aren't being mean on pur-
pose, so they won't behave badly once you find the root of the
problem and fix it!

#2 Your cat's bad behaviour reflects your own

As a cat parent, it is your responsibility to give them a stim-
ulating environment, love, and be sure of their health.

Bed behaviour begins when something is not right. You
need to take this as a clue that you need to fix something.
Something may have changed in your own behaviour or in
 your environment. 

Placing the blame entirely on your cat will only augment
the problem.

Try to understand what had changed in order to understand
why your cat is acting in this way.

#3 Your cat is scared of you

When a cat is acting in a way that is out of the norm for them
 (particularly when they are being destructive), the urgency
of the situation can push you to act brusquely and this scares cats.

It is easy to build a habit of shouting, stamping your food, or
spraying water each time your cat behaves badly in order to dis-
suade them. This is a way to treat the symptoms, true, but you
are not dealing with the cause of the problem.

Your cat will end up being scared of you, becoming anxious
in your presence, which will compromise your relationship with
them.

When your cat does something wrong, restrain yourself and try
to act in a positive manner.

#4 Your cat doesn't know why you are punishing
     them

Cats learn when they directly associate a behaviour with a result.
If you wait in order to punish your cat, they will not understand
why you are acting in the way you are.

This scenario is very common, often when a cat relieves them-
selves outside of their litter box. The pet parent finds the cat's
excretions hours after the fact, punishing the cat by making
them smell their excretions. In this case, the cat will not be
able to make the link between the fact and the punishment.

#5 Your cat's behaviour can get worse...

...but you can use pheromone diffusers such as FELIWAY®
which will help your cat to feel secure in your home and relax
 - this may help stop unwanted behaviours in your home. It
is also a good idea to discuss your cat's behaviour with your
 vet as there may be a medical reason.

#6 Your cat deserves better!

Isn't your cat the best? We're certain that if you have read the
article up to here, you won't hesitate for a second before say-
ing a loud YES!

Well, your cat also thinks that you're the best pet parent,
and you should confirm this to them with your behaviour.
You don't need to punish your cat, but be inventive - and to
turn bad behaviour into good!

You will need to be determined, but you will see that it is
by far the best solution.
